Can you guess what this country is named after?
Charlie raced through Ecuador in just 3 days as he was keen to get to Peru. The roads were a lot easier to ride along in comparison to the twist and turns of the Colombian mountain roads. Ecuador is located in the western corner at the top of the South American continent. It is the smallest country in South America and is named after the Equator.
The Equator is an imaginary line around Earth. It divides Earth into two equal parts: the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere. It runs east and west halfway between the North and South poles. The distance around the Equator is about 24,900 miles. Charlie stopped at the Equator to have his photograph taken.
Ecuador is famous for its national parks, including the Galápagos Islands. These 18 islands are home to some of the most amazing creatures, including the Galápagos tortoise Galápagos penguin, blue-footed booby, and iguanas. This is where a famous scientist named Charles Darwin spent a lot of time studying different animals and how they have changed over time. This is called Evolution.
